Individual Consultation for Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes therapy goes far beyond medications. We consider four medical disciplines: diabetology, obesity medicine, nutritional medicine, and sleep medicine.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus rarely occurs alone. Usually overweight, poor sleep, and unfavorable eating habits play a role — and that's exactly where we intervene. Not with a single medication, but with counseling that understands all four problem areas.

Why this combination?

The four areas are directly connected:

  • Sleep medicine: Obstructive sleep apnea significantly worsens insulin sensitivity.[1] Patients who don't sleep well can't stabilize their blood sugar values, and weight loss becomes harder.
  • Obesity medicine: Overweight increases insulin resistance. The DiRECT study (Lean et al., 2018) showed: with weight loss of 10–15 kg, 57% of type 2 diabetics achieved diabetes remission.[2]
  • Nutritional medicine: Nutrition has immediate effects on glucose metabolism. The NVL Type 2 Diabetes recommends structured nutritional therapy as a basic treatment measure.[3]
  • Diabetology: Medical adjustment with insulin or oral antidiabetics is necessary, but only of limited benefit if the other three areas are not addressed.

Focus areas of consultation

  • Nutritional strategies: Communication of evidence-based nutritional concepts that lead to stable blood sugar and satiety
  • Weight management: BIA-supported monitoring of body composition — not just weight, but also the ratio of fat to muscle mass matters
  • Movement recommendations: Everyday movement goals that fit the patient's life situation
  • Follow-up checks: Regular monitoring with glucose sensor evaluation (CGM/FGM) and therapy adjustments
  • Long-term support: Chronic diseases need long-term support. We accompany you over months and years.
Our therapy goal

The therapy goal is the most stable metabolic control possible while considering the individual life situation. This does not mean perfect blood sugar values at the risk of hypoglycemia, but safe and realistic control that the patient can implement in daily life.
